CRPARP supports to strengthen the capacity of Bangladesh Forest Department (BFD) and targeted communities to better manage forest resources confronted with climate change risks. The key intervention envisaged under capacity development component aims to improve institutional knowledge, skills and technical capacity of BFD on sustainable forest resources management in the face of the climate change.
The project has provision for oversees and national training programs for BFD and MoEF Officials. Oversees training programs include the category of one year Masters’ Program on Climate Change and/or Forestry from United Kingdom for BFD and MoEF Officials, two months training on Adaptive Sustainable Forest Management and Development for 16 BFD officials (two batches) for Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACFs) and Range Officers (RO) from the University of Philippines, three months training on Remote Sensing for Carbon Forestry and Monitoring for Range Officers (RO) from Indian Institute of Remote Sensing from Dehra Dun, India.
There is also the provision of two week exposure visit from Indian Institute of Sciences on Climate Change Projections & Impacts, Global Vegetation Models for Range Officers (RO), Addressing Climate Change Vulnerability through Climate Resilient Forestry and Adaptation Practices for Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACFs), Forest Carbon Baseline, Inventory and Monitoring Methods for Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCFs) and Exposure visit on REDD+ and CDM Project Development for Conservator of Forests (CFs). The project will also arrange another two weeks exposure visit from Indonesia/Philippines on Assessment and Monitoring of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services for Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCFs) and Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACFs).
National Training Programs include one week training for 380 Forest Field Officials from project locations and one day training on Forestry & Climate Change to 17000 project beneficiaries of project location. A national capacity building consulting firm will organize and conduct trainings at central and national level.
The project is processing all oversees training programs and has made some progress. The selection process of the national capacity building consulting firm is on-going.
